Plastic-lined foil blisters are the industry gold-standard method for on-board reagent storage on in-vitro diagnostic cartridges.

Blisters consist of a cold-formed layer to form the geometric cavity to store the fluid, heat staked to a tear-able lidding foil allowing the fluid to egress at time of use. The inner surfaces of the foil are coated in plastic to allow compatibility with a wide variety of reagents, while the aluminum layer reduces the water vapor transmission rate (WVTR) to effectively zero and also protects sensitive reagents from degradation caused by light.
